Sharon McKie

Sharon is an experienced chartered tax adviser specialising in the taxation of private clients. She has extensive experience of helping clients with complex Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax matters in order to manage the long term preservation of their wealth. Having worked in two major accountancy firms, a large law firm and two major private banks including Coutts, Sharon has advised a diverse client base. She has a particular expertise in the management of tax enquiry work and complex tax litigation.
She has been a member of a number of professional committees of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. She is currently a member of the Private Client (UK) Sub-Committee and the Private Client (International) Sub-Committee of the CIOT.
She is a well-known writer on taxation. Her published works include Hutton & McKie on Stamp Duty Land Tax, Tolley’s Estate Planning, McKie on Statutory Residence and numerous articles in the technical press.
Sharon qualified as a solicitor before qualifying as a chartered tax adviser.
She was awarded the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s Fellowship Medal for the best fellowship submission of the year in 2014.
Simon McKie

Simon has specialised in solving the taxation problems of private clients since the early 1980s. He was formerly the Head of Taxation at Coutts & Co and had previously been the head of the City tax practice of a major accountancy firm and a director of Rathbone Brothers Plc. He advises on all tax matters affecting the private client. He also has extensive experience in the provision of expert witness reports.
Simon has been the Chairman of the Faculty of Taxation and of the Faculty’s Inheritance Tax & Trusts Sub-Committee and of the Capital Taxes Sub-Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and an elected member of the Governing Council of the ICAEW. He has sat on various joint committees of the professional bodies with Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs.
He is currently a member of the Technical Committee of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and a member of the Private Client (UK) Sub-Committee and of the Private Client (International) Sub-Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
He is a well-known lecturer and writer on taxation having been shortlisted for the Taxation Awards, ‘Writer of the Year’ no less than seven times. His published works include The Capital Gains Taxation of Non-Resident Settlements, McKie on Reinvestment Relief, Butterworths’ Personal Financial Planning Manual, Tolley’s Estate Planning and McKie on Statutory Residence.
